Sample Turkish Itinerary

Please bear in mind that this itinerary is a sample and is intended to give you an flavour of what could be in store for you!

The week’s route is set by you the guests, we can help you with suggestions based on your experience and expectations. This is your holiday and we want it to be very special!

Day 1. Fethiye

Arrive at the yacht in the marina in Fethiye which is just 45 minutes from Dalaman International Airport, meet up with the crew and make yourselves at home. Explore the market and have dinner in one of the many restaurants on the waterfront before returning to the yacht  for a nightcap and retiring for the night to your cosy cabin.

Day 2. Fethiye to Skopia Limani - 13 miles

Familiarise yourself with the yacht, a full safety briefing will be given before we leave the marina. A short sail of about two hours, depending on the wind, will take us across the spectacular  bay of Fethiye into Skopia Limani which is an area of outstanding beauty with islands galore, pine clad mountains and turquoise blue waters. After a hectic afternoon of swimming, snorkeling or just plain lazing in the sunshine, we weigh anchor and take a short sail to another nearby bay where we can moor up alongside a jetty and visit a restaurant ashore for dinner. One of our favourites is Wall Bay, named after the Byzantine wall on it’s eastern side. From here you can enjoy a walk in the pine forest along the water’s edge or take the dinghy to the adjacent Cleopatra’s Baths.

Days 3. Skopia Limani to Gemiler Adasi - 15 miles

After a leisurely breakfast on board Anam Cara, we leave our overnight anchorage and weave our way in and out of some of the numerous bays of Skopia Limani - Tomb Bay, with its ancient tombs high up in the cliffs, - Tersane, the site of an ancient boatyard, and many more. By mid morning the breeze usually picks up and we set sail eastwards towards Gemiler Adasi. Adasi means island in Turkish, and this island is strewn with Byzantine antiquities including a fabulous arched walkway falling steeply to the sea. The view from the top of the island is spectacular and a must see for all visitors. Close by is Olu Deniz, a beautiful landlocked lagoon, now forbidden to yachts to minimise disturbance to this site, it also has the most photographed beach in Turkey.

Day 4. Gemiler Adasi to Kastellorizon - 35 miles

We set sail early today, heading east past the Seven Capes and the sixteen miles of golden sands of Patara Beach. The scenery is arid but spectacular and the sailing can be exhilarating. Kastellorizon is the most eastern of the Greek Islands and lies just two miles of the Turkish coast opposite Kas. We moor stern-to the village quay and enjoy the scene during lunch. Colour washed houses, splendid Greek Orthodox churches, pretty tavernas, brightly painted fishing boats. Kastellorizon has it all! Dinner is taken in one of the quayside tavernas, the evenings are quite magical here.

Day 5. Kastellorizon to Ucagiz Liman - 15 miles

Early in the morning it is possible to take a local boat to the Blue Grotto with it’s sparkling blue waters in a magnificent cave. Otherwise we leave this enchanting Island and sail East, past Olu Burun which is the site of the oldest known shipwreck in Turkey where Dr. George Bass recovered artifacts now exhibited in Bodrum Museum, and on to Kekova roads, the area of the sunken city. We take lunch on board at Polemos and you can visit the ancient harbour of Aperlae. We then sail down Kekova Roads and through the rock strewn entrance to an inland sea on whose shores lies Ucagiz Liman. Dominated by the Mosque, it is a quaint little village where Sarcophagi abound, goats roam freely and the village ladies still wear traditional dress of pantaloons, headscarves with their arms covered in the Moslem tradition.

Day 6. Ucagiz Liman to Kalkan - 25 miles

After breakfast you may take the dinghy and visit a magnificent fortress standing dramatically over the village of Kale Koy. The walk up to the castle is steep but the view is breathtakingly beautiful. an Amphitheatre is cut into the rocks within the castle and the surrounding slopes are dotted with Sarcophagi. The area of the sunken city can be fully appreciated from this vantage point. It is an awesome experience. Once back on board, we start our journey back along the coast, stopping at Kalkan for the night. Dinner tonight is taken at your choice from one of the many restaurants ashore.

Day 7. Kalkan to Karacaoren Adasi - 30 miles

An early start to sail back up the coast past the Seven Capes into Karacaoren Adasi where we will stop for lunch in a delightful anchorages after lunch you can swim, snorkel or simply relax in the sunshine. Dinner is taken on board tonight, a barbeque under the stars!!

Day 8. Karacaoren Adasi to Fethiye - 12 miles

Our final sail to Fethiye, a little last minute shopping in the bazaar, or perhaps a visit to the Turkish barber or a Turkish Bath for a close shave and a massage before leaving to catch your return flight home.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!!
